Usually, the foundation of a building takes the most time to construct because it is the start of that project, and the stability of the building is predicated on the strength of the foundation. Our 24-hour day is similar.
The beginning of our day is the foundational period for the following 24 hours and starting our day off right can make all the difference in our mood, productivity, and overall performance. These morning routine ideas laid out in this article are designed to give you an advantage by optimizing the foundational period of your day.
I often wonder what high-functioning people have in common that sets them apart from the masses.
After some digging, they all had exceptional morning routines. And honestly, it makes sense. We all share the same 24 hours and how we use those hours will ultimately determine our overall success.
It is crucial to have a productive morning routine that sets you up for success and helps you tackle the day ahead if you want to be a high-functioning individual. But with so many different morning routine ideas and recommendations out there, it can be overwhelming to choose the best one.
Why is your morning routine not optimized?
Lack of time: Time is one of (or to some) the most valuable asset available to us. Commonly, the majority of people struggle to fit a constructive morning routine into their busy schedules, especially when they have life factors like work, school, kids, or all of the above.
Difficulty to form a habit: Starting a new routine can be challenging, especially if it requires a big change in our behavior. It takes time and effort to establish a new habit and fully integrate it into your daily behavioral pattern. But some of these morning routine ideas are super easy to integrate and are not that time-consuming.
Not making it a priority: It can be easy to prioritize other things, such as checking email or social media when you first wake up. But something to help is daily acknowledging the benefits that are going to come from sticking to some of these morning routine ideas. Attaching positive emotions that you’re going to experience from being consistent with this new habit will make it easier for you to adhere.
Lack of motivation: Some people struggle to find the motivation to stick with a morning routine, especially if they are not seeing immediate results. Clearly outline the goals you expect to get from this routine and read them out loud to yourself as soon as you wake up to set the tone for yourself and for you to become one with your “why” for starting this new change.

Resistance to change: New transitions can be difficult for some people, especially if they are used to their current morning routine of checking Instagram for 30 minutes. Making a significant change to their morning routine may feel uncomfortable or extraneous.
To overcome these challenges, it’s vital to start small and work on one of these obstacles at a time, then advance as you become consistent.
Stay consistent, even if it takes some time to develop this new habit. Try to consciously remember the benefits associated with having a morning routine.
With persistence and dedication, you can successfully implement these morning routine ideas, and start your day off on the right foot!
Five morning routine ideas
Exercise
Any form of constructive physical activity is a great way to boost energy levels and get your blood flowing. Exercising releases endorphins, which are natural mood boosters, making you feel more alert, focused, and energized.
A quick yoga flow, a 3-mile walk, or a full-body gut-wrenching workout would suffice. Including exercise in your morning routine will leave you feeling refreshed and ready to win the day.
Mindful Meditation
Meditation doesn’t have to be too time-consuming or this esoteric thing that requires an extensive process. The morning time is the most opportune moment to get into a deep meditative state because of the level of quietness and stillness. Meditation is one of the most holistic ways to reduce stress, improve focus, and increase our self-awareness.
There is no set limit to how long someone should meditate. Whether for 5 or 50 minutes, you can still feel the benefits throughout the day.
Hydration
Much research shows how staying properly hydrated is vital for our bodies to function properly. The average human body is made up of about 73% water. Drinking a glass of water first thing in the morning is a simple way to hydrate our body and help aid our natural internal facilities.

Nutritious Breakfast
Breakfast being the most important meal of the day is not just a saying, it’s actually very factual. A healthy breakfast can sufficiently fuel your body and provide the necessary nutrients you need to be productive and energized.
Eating a healthy protein-dense breakfast can also help regulate your metabolism (cellular activity) and keep you feeling full and satisfied. Try to always have protein, whole grains, and fruits or vegetables in your breakfast for a balanced meal.
Gratitude Practice
Every morning we have the opportunity to initiate a mental and emotional state that carries us throughout our day.
Research has shown regularly practicing gratitude can increase our happiness, reduce our stress and anxiety, and improve our physical health.
Whether it’s writing what we are grateful for in a journal, saying affirmations, or taking a moment to reflect, incorporating a moment of gratitude into your morning routine can help improve your overall well-being.
Takeaway
A productive morning routine can be a great advantage to winning your day and maximizing all the opportunities within it.
Implementing one, or all of these morning routine ideas, can help you feel more energized and significantly increase your performance.
